Frequently Asked Questions

How does the Keep Your Cool program work?

Once you contact us, a Keep Your Cool representative will set up an appointment for a free energy audit. Your audit will consist of a brief site inspection to verify the savings that can be achieved at your location. Our representative will prepare a Program Agreement which outlines any potential work that can be done, the projected energy savings, the total project cost, and the total cost, if any, to you.

What do you mean “total costs, if any”?

The Keep Your Cool program covers a variety of efficiency measures for coolers and freezers in a commercial setting. In some instances, a participating utility will sponsor the program by paying up to the entire cost of materials and installation. Your auditor is familiar with local sponsors and will coordinate this for you.

Who pays for this?

Actually, you have already paid for this. The funds that sponsor this and similar programs are collected as a public benefits charge on every utility bill you pay. Those funds are then used to support many programs that encourage energy efficiency, such as Keep Your Cool. As far as the details of your retrofit are concerned, once you sign the Project Completion Form indicating that the work has been completed, the participating utility will distribute the funds directly to the Keep Your Cool contractor.

How do I know if I qualify?

Contact us at 800.449.3687 or by email at john@redwoodenergyservices.com to find out if your utility is currently participating in the program.

What is the catch?

It takes a few weeks for paperwork to be processed, approved, and your materials to be manufactured and installed. Benefits are distributed on a first come, first served basis. Other than that, there is no catch. Really.

When does the program end?

Program funding is limited and enrollment ends when all funds have been allocated. For current information on programs available in your area, contact us at 800.449.3687 or by email at john@redwoodenergyservices.com.

What types of equipment can I get installed?

The program covers commercial refrigeration gaskets, strip curtains, LED refrigerated case lighting, electronically commutated motors (ECMs), auto door closers, evaporator fan controllers, and anti-sweat heaters (ASH). Some utilities also encourage customized projects with excellent savings opportunities which do not necessarily fit into one of these categories. If you have an idea for your facility, we can work with you to evaluate its potential.

What about equipment that the program doesn’t cover?

In some cases retrofits cannot be completed without other repairs that are not covered by the program. Your representative will let you know about required repairs and can prepare a quote for any additional equipment or repairs not covered by the program. You are never under obligation to accept this bid. You may opt to have your own contractor complete the work or simply do it yourself.
